⚡️ Obsidian Vortex Announce First Ever Show in Antarctica With Drone Audience
June 15, 2025 By: The Howling Amp
In a move that redefines “cold metal,” avant black metal band Obsidian Vortex has announced a historic one off performance at a research outpost in Antarctica. Billed as „Glacier’s Grasp: The Frozen Sermon“, the concert will be livestreamed globally and “attended” exclusively by autonomous AI drones equipped with audio sensors and atmospheric analyzers.
“We’ve always been about isolation, distortion, and the sublime violence of nature,” said frontman Vormyndr via encrypted radio transmission. “So we decided: let’s bring black metal where the sun literally doesn’t shine.”
The band, hailing from Reykjavik, has become infamous in underground circles for performing in abandoned volcano craters and on drifting icebergs. Their 2023 album CryoPsalms was recorded entirely inside a glacial crevasse using solar powered amps.
The Antarctica event will be:
Zero-attendance (human, at least)
Streamed live via Starlink uplink
Featuring a 30 minute ambient drone prelude generated by polar wind AI sonification
Possibly canceled mid set if the continent „rages back,“ as drummer Ylva put it
While critics call it a PR stunt, diehard fans are thrilled. “If anyone can melt the ice caps with tremolo riffs, it’s these lunatics,” said a fan on MetalStorm forums.
The event is scheduled for July 6, 2025, and will be viewable only through the band’s self hosted, Tor based streaming platform, VoidSignal.onion.
