Legendary stoner doom trio Sleep has unveiled their most cosmic project yet: a single continuous 420 hour-long song titled \u201cDopesmoke II: The Galactic Bongrip.\u201d The catch? It will only ever be played once, from a solar powered satellite placed in orbit around Mars.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wanted to create something so massive, so slow, it couldn’t be confined by Earth\u2019s time signatures,\u201d guitarist Matt Pike explained through a thick cloud of… inspiration.<\/p>\n
The song was recorded over three years using analog equipment submerged in resin to slow tape degradation. The resulting sound reportedly contains:<\/p>\n
Sub-bass frequencies below human hearing,<\/p>\n
Riff cycles lasting over 45 minutes each,<\/p>\n
And guest contributions from the last known didgeridoo player on Neptune (citation pending).<\/p>\n
The satellite, affectionately named \u201cGanja One,\u201d is programmed to:<\/p>\n
Wake up only on April 20th, 2069, during Martian dusk,<\/p>\n
Broadcast the track into the Martian atmosphere,<\/p>\n
Then self-destruct in a puff of purple smoke (simulated, of course).<\/p>\n
Fans will be able to „listen“ in real-time via a slow drip livestream featuring AI generated visuals based on lava lamp patterns and cosmic dust data.<\/p>\n
NASA officials reportedly gave the green light, stating:<\/p>\n
